Dragon Keeper

Which Minor Character Could Have Played A Major Part?
How so?

I think Master Lang (I think that's his name) could have played a bigger part because he was only in the beginning as the main character, Ping's, master as well as the Emperor's emperial Dragon Keeper. I think he could have had a larger part by being throughout the story. Since Ping becomes the emperial Dragon Keeper, I think Master Lang could have maybe put up a fight that he lost his job.

Leadership Update- Week 1 & 2 (Term 4)

I haven't done much at all due to production, but I helped out with Librarians last week on Friday.

Production Update

For the past two weeks, I have been practicing production 6 hours a day, 5 days a week.
All of the main production cast have been practicing non-stop for about 3 months and finally the performance is in 2 days. We have performed in front of the Kakano Team (Year 0-3) with the Kauri Team singing in the major group songs which includes; With A Little Help From My Friends, Think, Respect and Happy. And then vice versa. I think we have perfected everything but smiling. Everyone is very tired but soon all of our hard work will be over.

:)

We are performing 3 times; Saturday 25, Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29.
On Saturday we are performing at our school's 50th Jubilee. 1964-2014

  • Respect
  • Think
  • Superior Ones
  • When The Going Gets Tough and,
We Love The Nightlife

It was great :)

My Speech

Why We Should Save Endangered Species From Habitat Loss

Animals all over the world are suffering, suffering from disease and being poached. On the other hand, animals are also dying from Habitat Loss, people building farms, houses and other buildings are destroying many animals’ homes. This happens all over the world, and should definitely be stopped.

Habitat Loss. Habitat Loss is, yet another fatal reason why animals are suffering. Orangutans and Sumatran Tigers are suffering a lot due to habitat loss, palm oil plantations and house and farm land. But palm oil is the main problem. Palm oil comes from a reddish brown fruit from a Palm Oil tree. Orangutans live in parts of Indonesia and Malaysia and the tigers live in the small island of Sumatra, which is also part of Indonesia, which is also where the main Palm Oil plantations in the world are being made, but when the industry needs more plantation space, the forest is destroyed. Palm Oil is an ingredient in products like; chocolate, cookies, popcorn, crackers, low fat dairy products, lollies, soap, frozen dinners, cosmetics, biodegradable car fuel. You may think that is a lot, but there are thousands of other products. It is also a main cooking ingrediant in Africa, Southeast Asia and parts of Brazil. So we are basically, constantly eating/using palm oil products. Since palm oil is in some of the favourite foods in the world, we are almost encouraging companies to keep using palm oil in their products, people are also greedy. So that leads to the forests being bulldozed down. Therefore, leaving the Orangutans and Tigers with no home. Which is not fair because these animals are already endangered and are now becoming critically endangered.

Some people are addicted with palm oil products and don't care that it is destroying animals' homes. Much of the palm oil that is consumed as food is, to some degree, oxidized rather than in a fresh state, and this oxidization appears to be responsible for health risk associated with palm oil. Not only that, but palm oil is made up of a number of fatty acids. Palm oil also increases blood cholesterol and causes heart disease.

Overall, with numbers of species lowering, some animals are coming close to extinction. Without animals, we would not have anything beautiful and natural. Because many plants need animals to survive. So we should be helping animals survive. Some don’t believe, but they have no idea how beautiful they are.

Production

Every Monday morning I attend my song production practice, each time we mainly sing:

  • Superior Ones
  • When The Going Gets Tough
  • Lets Have a Wedding
  • Get Into The Groove
  • With a Little Help From my Friends
  • Think
  • Respect
And occasionally, Happy.

I always look forward to Monday :)

Production Practice

Today I had production practice. We were mainly talking about who our characters were inspired by. As an Extra Lady (Only singing) I was quite surprised to know that my character was actually inspired by someone/some people. It turns out we were meant to kind of be like the 'Pink Ladies' from Grease, basically, the popular cool people. I was happy to know that, I had a great time at practice :)

End of Term Reflection

My Discussion

My WALT was to use connectives.

Another reason is businesses have to check the goods for faults like rips and cracks.

My connective is Another reason. I think I need to use more connectives in my writing.

Wednesday 18 June 2014

My Explaination

WALT- I can write sentences that have a variety of starters and lengths.

Here is a paragraph out of my writing that shows I have done this.

In the baby carrier example, a company was making fake baby carriers and selling them as a different company. This case has broken many rights. This case is putting many lives in danger because of the unsafe product. This means that as a result of this, it is effecting not only the consumers but the REAL business. For a start, the effect on the consumer is that they are putting their young lives in danger.

I have used connectives, clauses and other things.

Winter Sport- Basketball

Last week on Friday, eight teams competed in a small basketball competition. My team, Team 5, played against Team 1. We played three games all against the same team. In the first round our score was 1-0. Zero to us. After 20 minutes of drills and a small team talk, we played the second round. This time we did much better. We scored three goals, two of which, scored by myself. In the last round, the opponent team scored one goal. Overall, the score was 3-2, a close score. The other team played very well as well. We all had a fantastic time! In our practice sessions, I learnt many other helpful skills. For example, shooting, dribbling etc.

My Leadership Roles

I have a series of leadership roles at school this year, as becoming in the intermediate section of our school gives us more opportunities. At the moment I am in senior choir, am a librarian, am in the student council, have a part in the school production (I also had a main part last year as well) and am a Winter Sport at Oaklands team leader.Hopefully more rolls will come either this year or next year.

Winter Sport Leadership

Recently I have been chosen to be a leader for Winter Sport at Oaklands. Being a leader consists of :  running the sports drills, planning the drills, helping the group perfect their sports skills, making sure my team works together and simply being a role model. Each week Tamara, the other group 5 leader and I will plan our drills for our team.

King Tutankhamun

Introduction

In 1341 BC, a king to be was born, Tutankhamun. His father, the Pharoh of Egypt was ruling at that time and was married to an egyptian woman, known as 'The Younger Lady'.After nine years, the young boy took reign, and was known as King Tutankhamun, 12th ruler of the 18th egyptian dynasty.

Childhood

Tutankhamun was born in Akhetaten in 1341 BC.He was born to Amenhotep (also known as Akhenaten) and his mother 'The Younger Lady'.At nine years of age, he took reign and fixed all that was wrong. He was King Tutankhamun, 12th ruler of the 18th egyptian dynasty.

Family/Middle Years

At a young age he married his half sister, Ankhesenpaaten, who, later, changed her name to Ankhesenamun. They later on had two daughters, that sadly died. One died at five or six months of pregnancy, the other, nine.

Death/Afterdeath

In 1323, Tutankhamun suddenly died. There are many ideas on how he died, some thought he died of Maleria, and others thought he was murdered. The tomb was prepared hastily for the 18 year old DEAD king to lie in as he died suddenly. His tomb was discovered in 1922, nearly 3000 years after his death. It was found in what is now the Valley of The Kings, by British archeologists. When the tomb was found, it was robbed at least twice. It is well known for its amazing treasures, which have been moved to museums throughout Egypt.

Impact

In Egypt, a Pharoh would oversee the temples, law, crops and other important things.Tutankhamun's father left the country in a bad condition, which only left Tutankhamun to fix it.He succeded immensly, and was one of the most respected Pharohs.

Conclusion

Overall, Tutankhamun was a very effective leader and put all wrong, right! He is most famous for his amazing tomb and its bejewled treasures.

End of Term Reflection

The area of my learning that I have made the most progress on is Algebra because at the start o.f the term I had no idea how to do it but now it makes sense and I'm quite good at it.

The area I want to improve on next term is Ukelele because I am not very good at changing chords.

Our Making Choices Video

In this video media and friends influence her to drink.

My Writing

WALT-I can elaborate my ideas to include description of characters, settings and important events.

Ruby was slightly trembling, she was scared. Her eyes were wide with fright as she peered through the crack in the door."Mum,Dad!"she said faintly, because she,Ruby Redfort was well and truly scared!

I know I can do this because I have stated how the character is feeling, the action and what the character said/would say during this situation.I have also asked for feedback.

Friday 4 April 2014

Tamara & Isla's Maths Video

WALT:use equations to represent practical situations

Making Choices

Friends-

Friends also can influence you in good and bad ways. For example peer pressure .This is when your friend is pressuring you to do something you don't want to do,can't do or are not allowed to do.This usually leads to friends breaking up.This usually happens because you have decided to not do what they want you to do,and the may say that they won't be your friend anymore. So they are often bad influences.Thos happens frequently
 between friends.

I have been learning how to use descriptive verbs in my writing, the verbs in this paragraph include...
Usually,often and frequently.

Making Inferences

I am learning to make inferences.
This is a map I used to make inferences.
Firstly I read the text,I was given questions to answer on the map.I found the answers in the text. After writing what the text was I wrote what I thought it meant. Finally I wrote what the inference was.

My Good Learner Strategy

What I have improved on in the past three weeks is seeking feedback.
I know this because I have been asking lots of people for feedback on my learning lately.
I have found this challenging because lots of people will just say it's good.
My next step is to give effective feedback.

Friday 21 March 2014

Ten guitars-By Isla,Tamara and Katie.

At the moment I think I can play Ten Guitars pretty well,I play confidently.I say this because I can change the chords quite well and can strum easily.

I have really improved in strumming.

My next step is to learn to change the chords much better.

School Camps Aren't a Waste of Time

This is a paragraph from my persuasive arguement.I am learning to add persuasive phrases/words to make my writing more persuasive.

Here are some reasons why school camps are not a waste of time.Firstly you can meet new people and make new friends.Students get to know their teacher better and learn interesting things about them.Students may even learn about their good friends!Obviously you are pushed to aim higher and take risks which helps you become more confident in yourself.Clearly, school camps give you many experiences for example competitions, night games like spotlight, risky activities and your teachers holding strict room inspections.Do you want to be part of a group of people who don't want fun for their children? So let all children go on school camps!

This writing shows that I can use persuasive phrases/words.
For example clearly, obviously and do you want to be part of......

My Landscape Art

Lines: I think that my waves are very effective because they are bold and stand out.
Colours: I think that my hills are effective because they are lots of different greens.
Tone: I think my sea is very effective because at the top of the sea it gets lighter then darker and at the bottom it gets darker then lighter.
Shape: I think my sea is effective because it is very basic and it makes the painting stand out more.
