Goal Reflection

My goals for this year were to make new friends and get a leadership badge.

1) Make new friends; this one has gone exceptionally well for me because I have made 5 really good new friends.

2) Get a leadership badge; This one hasn't really been going very well, because I keep forgetting to blog for it.

My next step will definitely be to step up my game and blog for my leadership and also get the home work challenges that I have already completed checked off.

Koru Games Reflection

Over the last 3 days I have been competing in a year 7/8 sports tournament called The Koru Games. I participated in the Oaklands Girls Basketball team at Lincoln University. I really enjoyed playing the small games I did because it was a challenge for me because of my shortness and the other teams tallness. Thinking back to the beginning of the year, when we only first started training for it, I have improved greatly. Before, I barely knew the rules, let alone how to play. I have definitely improved at my intercepting, marking and lay ups. I found the Koru Games a very helpful and fun tournament, and me being not a sporty person, I actually found a sport that I like and am slightly good at.

Long story short, I loved the Koru Games.😀

Writing - spelling

Here is my entry/exit ticket.

My goal was spelling. I got up to extended abstract. Here is a paragraph that I spell checked by reading backwards.

My argument is why Marvel Studios is the best film industry in the world.

Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth. Those are names of several famous actors in Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. Each of those actors play their characters incredibly well. Think about Chris Evans (Captain America/Steve Rogers) who in the past, also was cast as The Human Torch/ Johnny Storm, the cocky arrogant rich guy. And then think about his role as Captain America, the sensible, patriotic superhero whose only hope is in his country. I personally think that you must be pretty talented to switch polar opposite roles. And what about Robert Downey Jr, doesn't he just suit his role perfectly? He doesn't even need to change his personality because he is pretty much exactly like Tony Stark. Although most Marvel movies are awesome, others are a bit unrealistic.

Isla and Poppy's Maths

My maths goal was circumference, area, radius and diameter. I believe I am at extended abstract because I can teach others how to do this.

Goal Review Term 3

My goals for this year were to make new friends and get a leadership badge.

For my leadership badge goal- This goal has again, not been going well.  But I have been blogging for it so I am getting closer.

And for my friend goal- I have made a lot of new friends that are very good. This has been good because one of them is going to the same high school as I am.

Overall, my goals are going ok.

Writing Prove It

Here is my example of how I have used punctuation in my writing.
The writing in green is where I used the punctuation.

Radio Station

On Wednesday, me and Taylor had our Radio Station Shift. We got there on time and got all that we needed done. We do it every two weeks on channel 107.2 FM. Each time we have to use the script to figure out who's saying what and which songs to play over the show. We also have to choose some news to read from an appropriate news website and choose a piece from the school newsletter.

Leadership

Last week, I had Radio station. Even though I wanted to play basketball with my friends, I went anyway. We talked loudly and clearly into the microphones so you could hear the voices properly. Next, time, we will probably be able to do radio station without any help from a teacher.

My Discovery- #2

Last Friday we tried to make pasta. It was a complete and utter failure. Unfortunately, we had to many eggs and not enough flour. That problem caused the dough to be wet and eggy and yellow. We will probably try again at someone's house another time in the weekend.

My Discovery

For My Discovery, Emma, Poppy, Jessica and I have decided to make foods from different countries. Lately we made Mango Lassi which is from India, it tastes a lot like a mango shake. It was successful and we loved it lots. We look forward to making it again. Especially Poppy. Ha ha.

Reading Prove It

How to achieve my current reading goal;

Firstly you will get the sheet below (obviously not filled out).
You read your text.

The first question is what is the style of writing (descriptive, historic, formal, poetic). You decide on which style the text is. Next you think if the style stays the same throughout the text, if so write yes.

The next question is what is the author's purpose? (Persuade, inform, entertain...)
You then decide on that and repeat the step above.

You then complete the last question, What is the word choice in this text? (High frequency words, precise, technical). Repeat first step.

Then complete the Overall... Because... Because...

Writing

This will most likely lead to going to University/ Polytech for a qualification in either Graphic Design, Media Arts or Visual Communication. A qualification in any of these subjects is definitely required for a career in Graphic Design. Having already had some experience and knowledge in this from High School Education, you will most likely find it easier; Going into tertiary prepares you for a future job/ career in Graphic Design.

My goal is punctuation, I have used it in my paragraph whn I put in a semi colon.

Goal Reflection

At the start of the year we decided on three goals that we needed to try and achieve. My goals were;

- Make new friends- I have done well at this goal because I have made 3 new friends.

- To get a leadership badge- I am not doing very well at this one because I always forget to post about my leadership roles.

Peer Mediation

Last Friday I had Peer Mediation. I arrived on time with the other people I do it with. We couldn't use an iPad so we just used a pad of paper. Luckily, we had no problems but we walked all around the field and did the full twenty minutes.

Even though I wanted to play basketball, I knew I had to go and do my leadership role. :)

Poems

Summer

Warm weather, blazing hot sun.
Ice cream melting down our hands, creamy goodness in our mouths.
Cool ocean, refreshing, rejuvenating. The deep aqua waves sloshing up and down the golden beach, look as if they are hypnotising someone.
Days last forever and nights are just a blink.
Summer passes in a breeze, and the excitement and fun fades away into just a pleasant memory.

The language features I have used are;

- Similie
- Hyperbole
- Alliteration

I have used them because;

Similie- to compare/ make something sound like what it's not. To add some cool effect.
Hyperbole- To exaggerate. Make it more interesting.
Alliteration- To make it sound cool.

Term 2 Leadership Goal

My leadership goal for this term is to post about my roles often so I can achieve my Merit badge very quickly. I also want to be a very good role model to the years below myself.

Square Roots

How to work out Square Root question;

First of all, here is the question:

What is the square root of 81?

Basically, you have to think, what number multiplied by itself equals 81? Obviously, it is 9 x 9. So the answer would be 9. So the square root of 81 is 9.

What is the square root of 144?

Do the same steps and the answer is 12.

My Art

This is my self portrait inspired by Vincent Van Gogh. I used a dotted background by starting with a base colour (Green) and then used white and put dots in between. I got up to relational because I used several strategies but for some, I did not know why I used them.

My 'Wonder' Writing

My sheets cling to my hot, sweaty body. My name is August, by the way and I am six years old. Mum's scared eyes look down at me meaningfully. "I'm nervous" I tell her in a small, broken voice. "It's ok Auggie, this will be your last surgery for a while" she replies, patting my hand.

Today, I am having my 21st operation on my face.

The walls around me are white and daunting, so I feel even more scared. "Have some juice August" My Dad says, suddenly entering the room. He holds the brightly coloured juice box out in front of me, which I accept eagerly. A knock echoes through the small room and the door opens. A lady dressed in a white, stiff, rigid dress walks in, a clipboard in her hand.

"Hi, I'm Lilly, one of the nurses here" she glances over to me, and a notice a faint register of shock in her eyes. "And you must be August, a pleasure to meet you all" Nurse Lilly says, plastering a fake smile on her face. I raise my hand meekly and give a little wave.

"I just came to tell you that we need to go, it's time for your operation" Lilly says in a creepily calm voice. My arms and legs go tense and I slap a grimace onto my deformed face. Mum helps me into a wheelchair anfd brushes my bangs out of my eyes. "You'll be okay Auggie" Mum and Dad say in unison.

Nurse Lilly wheels me out of the door. "So, August, do you know what this operation is going to do?" She asks kindly. I shake my head. "Well, it's going to make your cheeks look, more, normal" Lilly replies. She pushes open a door with the words 'Surgery Room' on it. I gulp and grip onto thr arm rests.

The room is dimly lit and there are three surgeons walking around with various medical objects.I catch a glimpse of a small object, resembling to a knife, mettalic and sharp. "Whatis that?" I ask Nurse Lilly, pointing at the worrying thing. She looks over in the direction of my hand, "It's called a scalpal" she replies. My eyes widen, that sounds scary.

I lie down on the bed in the centre of the room. Nurse Lilly brings a needle and a bottle of special cream over to me. She squirts some onto my arm and sticks the needle into my flesh. Because of the cream, it doesn't hurt a bit, but I feel liquid rushing up my veins. And then I fall asleep...

My eyes flutter opento see that that I am no longer in the hospital. My face is stinging, as if a million knives are stabbing me. There is a big box sitting stock still on the end of my bed, I wonder what it is? I hope it's a Star Wars toy. I lift off the lid and in the box is a little white and brown collie dog! The thing about it that grabbed my attention was the flower shaped spot on her back.

"Daisy, that's what I'll call her" I whisper, as if it's a secret.

I am learning to add vocabulary.

PALs

17/02/15

Yesterday at lunchtime, I had PALs. Our group was rostered to run a game for the year 0-3 students. Since we knew that the younger kids didn't have a very big concentration span, we decided it would be best to play a variety of games with them. We ran  games that would be easy as well as fun for the little kids. At the end we got them ito a circle to reflext about what they enjoyed. We gave out a few pozis to people who played their best. Playing with the younger kids was actually kinda fun!

I finished PALs and haung out with my friend.
